East River Folk Society The East River Folk Society is a Downriver-based nonprofit organization which celebrates the joy of music with monthly public performances in an open microphone "musical coffee house" format. These performances feature a variety of local musicians showcasing their talents in a relaxed, comfortable and fun setting. The open mic format attracts numerous performers of all ages and levels of ability from across the Downriver Detroit area. At a typical coffee house performance, you'll hear a dozen or more acts performing 2 or 3 songs each, depending upon time constraints. The show generally consists of two approximately one-hour segments, with a 15 to 20 minute intermission. Throughout the evening, dedicated ERFS volunteers are busy in the kitchen, assembling an assortment of delicious snacks, soft drinks and coffees, which can be purchased at very reasonable prices. There is an admission fee of $4 ($3 for members) to attend an ERFS coffee house performance. Proceeds from admissions and refreshments are used to 'pay the bills' -- cover venue rental fees, purchase and maintain sound equipment, defray printing and mailing costs for flyers and newsletters, etc. Thanks for visiting! Hope to see you soon! |
