Insects
I feel like a moth fluttering
round your bright light,
always strongly attracted,
but never really knowing why.
I feel like a big bumbling bee
looking for something sweet,
something sticky and nice to eat.
I feel like an insect
buzzing madly round your head,
looking for something on which to feed,
something that I think I need.
Am I a ladybird,
pretty enough for you to touch,
Am I a flutterbye,
glorious in the summer sun,
but dead in the frost.
Or am I a cockroach,
something you’d like to crush.
I feel like a worm,
severed in half.
I see you’ve fitted insect screens.
