Taiwan is such an interesting place.

I visited Taiwan long time ago, while I were 7 year old. Of course, I don't have any memory about that trip. Well, that kind of tour group trip will not let anyone have any remarkable experience anyway. Although I never be there afterward, Taiwan just never get away from me in these years.

Since my sister, Joyce, has a Taiwanese BF, she just always bring back video, food, magazine of Taiwan. Thanks to her BF, she makes lots of Taiwanese friends, and her friends sometimes become our family friends too. Finally, Taiwan is not a strange place to us at all. In fact, there are so many Taiwanese in Vancouver, it's not surprise to know one or two in school or work. Because of all these, I can't say that I understand the cuture of Taiwan very well, but I guess I know better than many people.

It's a great unfortunate that some people from HK have some serious misunderstanding about Taiwan: Taiwan is not out of fashion, slow pace, going behind HK, so on so for. Taiwan actually is not what they think. When you walk on the street in Taiwan, you should find that we are just so alike. We may not share the same fashion or style, but we all share some similar culture and attitude. This kind of similarity can also be found in other place in Asia, such as Korea and Japan too. Under this small world, I find that we are so far apart, but we are so close together at the same time. Learning about a new culture is one of the most interesting thing that one can do. I just took three row of films in Taiwan, but one of them mess up (see the P.S. section). So the following is my small presentation, not covering Taiwan that good, but I hope all of you will still like it. E-Mail

P.S. Now here's the lesson: Don't try to push process ILFORD DELTA 400.

Since I don't want to disturb my objects, I try to use faster film. If you checked my old series before, you should know that I really like to push process 400 film to 1600. TMY 400 do this job quite good and never let me down. The unfortunate fact is that I try to push the ILFORD Delta 400 in the same manner, and it turns me down badly. Ususally the film loss all the tolorance after push, but the Delta 400 just come out unprintable! The above contact print is what I get from the Delta, but I can not enlarge any satisfactory prints from the neg. Most of the pictures that you see in this series is on TMY, and it prove itself once again. Anyway, Don't try to push process Ilford Delta 400, not ever!

B&W pictures were taken by Canon Eos 50e with Tamron 28mm-200mm f3.5-5.6 on Kodak TMAX 400 film, and Ilford Delta 400 (push process to ISO 1600 for both of them). Print on Kodak Polymax RC paper. Touch up by Adobe Photo Shop 5.0. God, that slow Tamron zoom really kill me at night…>.<
