Growing up with the Mississippi River flowing against the banks of my hometown, in Illinois, had a profound effect on my life.
This mighty river, represented the force of life and mystery to me.  Watching the tugs pushing their heavy laden barges, through the locks and onward to unknown ports, was when I began to understand creativity is much like our waterways, flowing from one outlet to another with little effort.
On warm summer evenings, as I watched the fog shrouded river, I was always intrigued with the imaginative mind pictures I could create.  Knowing well the history of the area I visualized gambling boats, run away slaves, travelers, tug boats laden with goods to market and of course piles of luggage lining the long wooden loading docks.  Scenes long past, that shaped America's history.
Rivers, lakes, and oceans are where I have always found peace and a connection to my inner self.  To live land locked, without a great body of water to cast my dreams on, would be a terrible burden for me.
I have explored and studied fine art mediums most of my life, writing began in high school in the 1950's, and then became serious in the 1980's.
I retain and use the mediums of oil, watercolor, clay and pencil in my work today.  I am most grateful for the ability to use these mediums to express the visions in my minds eye of the characters in my fables, illustrating them in watercolor and sculpting them in clay has been a real advantage.
Remember to always "look for the magic in everyday things" and allow yourselves the pleasure of dreaming, creating and trying many different things.
