Links to some of D.K. Latta's writings available for free around the internet...

And, hey, if you like what you read, feel free to send an e-mail to the editor of the magazine/webzine in question, and say so -- REALLY (yeah, I'm not above a bit of shammeless plugging -- but if you don't tell them you like what I write...how're they gonna know, eh?)

  Stories:

Here are free links to just some stories that have been posted (or, in some cases, re-posted as they were originally published in print magazines) on various webzines. Actually, one of my best regarded stories is a science fiction piece called "Marking Time on the Far Side of Forever" (published in Prairie Fire). But it hasn't been re-published by a webzine. Maybe I should post it myself here one of these days. Anyhoo...

Pvt. Parker, Missing in Action...
Well regarded Twilight Zone-ish tale of a medic during the Vietnam War who finds himself treating a most mysterious patient...
The Google-Wumpf    (originally published in SpaceWays Weekly)
Darkly quirky tale of an inventor who finds himself in possession of a strange -- and possibly sinister -- device; if only he could figure out what it does!
Something on the Bed
Everyone tells their children that there aren't any monsters under the bed...but what do monsters tell their children...? (This was included in a Best of... anthology.)
Does Anyone Remember Dash Summers, Time Tripper?    (originally published in Horizons SF)
Can a comic strip really be predicting the future? And if so, what if something from the future doesn't want you to read it? (My little tribute to the Golden Age of Canadian comic books).
Hawk's Wood     (originally published in Adventures of Sword & Sorcery)
Sword & Sorcery about a warrior escorting a woman through jungle perils...the greatest of which may be awaiting at the end of their journey! -- a story popular enough that it led to the further published adventures: "The Skull of the Serpent" and "Something Dwells 'neath Hannah Town"

The High Tower     (originally published in Gauntlet)
Trapped in a warlord's keep, a mercenary with a demonic hand, and the woman he has come to rescue, must seek an escape.

The Stone Man
Follow up to the surprisingly popular "The High Tower" (see above) this has Zargatha and Vyanna uncovering a horrifying menace in the wreck of a deserted mining camp where something was unearthed.

The Blood Marsh
Zargatha and Vyanna return and must cross a strange swamp haunted be an old curse.

The Swarm     (originally published in Challenging Destiny)
Science fiction about a man, alone in an environment suit, facing a swarm of energy-draining space amoebas.

The Long Arm of the Law    (originally published in SpaceWays Weekly)
Historical Western/Science fiction/Supernatural combo -- really -- about a gunslinger with a bizarre arm (again!) pursuing a mysterious vendetta even he doesn't understand.
The Fellowship of the Midnight Sons
A couple of long form stories about a group of World War II era super heroes.

These are links to just some of the stories available out there, but there are others floating around  (including at  Pulp and Dagger Webzine) -- just search google.

   Non-Fiction Reviews and Essays

Dr. Who: The Fearmonger (audio drama)
Claremont Tales by Richard Lupoff (short story anthology)
Avengers: The Kree/Skrull War (graphic novel)
Superman: Red Son (graphic novel)
The Complete Peanuts (comic strip collection)
My Interview with comic book and screenplay writer Jeph Loeb (as part of my review of his hit Batman: Hush story line)
Who Do You Trust?: Conspiracies and Corruption in Captain Canuck's Future Reality (my little attempt at an analytical essay about some of the themes in the Canadian comic book, Captain Canuck)

As a regular contributor to UGO, you can just go there and, doing a search for Latta (since the bill me as both D.K. and as Darren), find many more graphic novel reviews. As well, I have different reviews accumulated at The Masked Bookwyrm's Graphic Novel Reviews site and essays about Canadian film & TV at The Great Canadian Guide to the Movies & TV.

HERE IS A LIST OF (SOME OF) D.K. LATTA'S PUBLISHED STORIES (NOT COUNTING THOSE HE PUBLISHED UNDER PSEUDONYMS...SHHHH! THEY'RE A SECRET)

(He is also a frequent contributor to Pulp and Dagger -- the on-line webzine devoted to pulp magazine style stories but with a modern sensibilities, where his stories of the albino Mountie, Kit Thunder (in "The Monster on the Tundra" and "Secrets of the Forgotten Valley"), the World War II era super heroes, The Fellowship of the Midnight Sons (in the serials, "When Walk the Gods" and "Night of the Mind-Tyrants"), and the various slightly racy tales of the sword & sorcery heroine, Neekin, among others, have garnered favourable fan response.)
