This Is My Flag

He lives in common exile
existing cheek to cheek with the pretty people.
The pretty girls with their
pretty scrubbed faces
and their pretty little smiles
concealing their dirty ugly thoughts.
The pretty boys with their pretty hair
and their pretty earrings and their
abundant cool that disappears
when the snake awakes.
He sits next to them in the theatre
and out on the patio.
He walks with them in the street
and moshes with them in the pit.
But he won't talk to them,
his words are the mask of fear
and they wear it well.

And so he lives in common exile
and ponders how fucked up this all is
and everyone lives happily ever after.
