The Morrissey comeback continues in typically self-effacing style with 'First Of The Gang To Die'. Plus check out new promos from art-rockers Dogs Die In Hot Cars, friendly pathos merchants Elbow and born-again smackheads Velvet Revolver.

Morrissey 'First Of The Gang To Die' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]

Or, the story of one man and the city who loves him. Built around footage taken from Mozzer's recent birthday show at the Manchester Evening News Arena, the promo for 'First of The Gang To Die' is an illustration of Mozzer worship at its most fanatical and shameless. Fans gamely tackle gangs of security guards twice their size for the chance to slap palms with the Quiffed One, desperately negotiating the dozen or so feet of no man's land between the security barriers and the stage like WWII escapees. Morrissey himself, meanwhile, presides over the whole business with such confidence and poise you suspect that, were anyone to make it onstage with him, he'd personally execute them with a mother-of-pearl handled revolver. Classy.

Dogs Die In Hot Cars 'I Loe You 'Cause I Have To' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]

If Andy Warhol had survived long enough to end up directing one of those Saturday morning Kids-TV gang shows (you know the sort of thing: half-a-dozen sexless pre-teens live together in a day-glo house having moralistic adventures) this is what it'd look like. The quintet of Glasweigian art rockers go about their daily chores - eating breakfast, hoovering, circling the keyboard player on little trikes - against a friendly pastel background with synchronised swimteam-like precision. Next week: Singer Craig is unhappy with his new haircut.

Elbow 'Grace Under Pressure' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]

This, the lead track from Elbow's forthcoming EP, sees Guy Garvey's mob finally evolving into the Lou Reed/Leonard Cohen classic misberalists they've been promising for years. With a touch of easy dub for good measure. There's no wailing or gnashing of teeth, nor any of the (admittedly amusing) humourous defusing of tension that's been present in past promos. Elbow are playing in Cuba, and we see the stark beauty of the experience, the place and the people just as they do, from desolate sunrises to celebratory crowds. Quite lovely.

Velvet Revolver 'Slither' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]

There're many jokes and still more warnings to be had when LA's most celebrated smack addicts reunite to relive the halycon days of Sunset Strip, but the fact remains that Slash and Duff still represent two of the most visceral performers that rock has ever seen. Scott Weiland is a less compelling choice, and his decision to exhibit his emaciated frame here is a strange one. Maybe that's why they're playing underground.
