Hot Spiced Cider

2 quarts pure apple cider

8 ounces white rum

10 ounces hot cinnamon schnapps

1/3 teaspoon whole cloves (braise first to get the flavor flowing)

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Cinnamon sticks to taste

  1. Pour cider into a large saucepan, turn the heat to medium, and warm cider for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add rum, schnapps, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon sticks.
  3. Heat to just below boiling, then simmer for 15 minutes.

If you want make the cider stronger after it has cooked for awhile (burning off the alcohol), add more rum.


Cold and Flu Medicine

Okay, this isn't really a beverage and it might not cure what ails you, but if you drink enough of it, you won't care.

Heat honey and lemon juice in a saucepan or in the microwave. Add rum or bourbon. Sip slowly. Feel better.
