The Khalsa Heritage Museum
celebrates 500 years of Sikh history and the 300th anniversary of the
Khalsa, the scriptures written by the 10th and last Guru, Gobind Singh,
founder of the modern Sikh faith. The museum building is situated
in the holy city of Anandpur Sahib, near Chandigarh, India and is
designed by Moshe Safdie, the internationally renowned architect.
The National Institute of Design in India was
entrusted with the job of designing museums galleries inside this
building. The project started in 2001 and we designed over 25 galleries
to depict the entire history of the Sikh religion. Our work was backed
by extensive research conducted by several well known scholars all over
India and abroad. I was involved in designing and visualising 7
different gallery spaces included here. These spaces display various
events in the history of Sikh religion which were shown by various high
tech and low tech installations and panels with specially designed
graphics.
All galleries spaces were
visualised using computer generated photo-realistic renderings. Model of
the building and renderings were done with 3D Studio MAX. Adobe
Photoshop was used to touch up images wherever it was necessary.
Presented here are plans
showing gallery spaces (highlighted) I designed and visualised.
