Possibly because of the university Urbino had the most English graffiti of anywhere we went.

Gubbio

These large wooden objects are raced through town and up a huge hill by teams of men, and are erected to the cheers of everyone in sight. The Catholic church has somehow claimed the ritual as its own, but many scholars believe the phallic objects and their ceremony to represent some kind of pre-Christian fertility ritual. They rest in the church of San Ubaldo at the top of the hill when not in use.
