This is the first installment of "Knightfall", a series that is dedicated to see the end of Batman. When I first read this I was very interested in the concept of all of Batman's hated villians breaking out of Arkham Asylum. Who broke them out and why? That is the mystery. But we are introduced to Bane. A menacing figure whose face cannot be seen. In this story, Batman tracks down one of the dozens of mentally insane criminals known as the Mad Hatter. The Hatter invites other criminals to his mad tea party only to control their minds with special hats. The Hatter is also interested in who the mystery figure is that broke them out. Hatter uses "the film freak" to track Bane to a hotel where Bane finds him and puts him in pictures permanently!! Batman finds the Hatter and a quick fight ensues. Batman Knightfall #1 is a good read and the art work is quite good. A few good menacing pictures of Batman are nice to see but one of the interesting things in this book is seeing the wear and tear on Batman. He looks rough, like he is not familiar with a razor, which is an interesting look. This is going to be a very good series considering that Batman has about 20 more villians to fight and put back where they belong... in Arkham.

Recommended reading scale: 2.5 out of 5
