Hong Kong, China - September 13, 2001

Well, I had no intention of coming to Hong Kong, as I'd been here before in 1996 - before it changed ownership from Britain to China. Its still big city, reminds me somewhat of New York - in its concrete and skyscrapers. But nontheless, here I am!

My first night in Hong Kong I heard about some plane that ran into one of the buildings of the World Trade Center. Then later, I heard it was hijackings and both buildings, and another one hit the Pentagon!! Shocking! I had no idea how huge it was! I've been thinking about it alot the last few days, and now the world is a completely different place. I could discuss it endlessly, but I'm sure everyone on the planet pretty much feels the same way. I'll just continue on to Hong Kong impressions, but actually I've been thinking about New York almost the entire time here.

Well, one impression of Hong Kong is that its almost empty of internet cafes as well as everywhere else in China. I walked around alot, and just kind of empty of them. Other than that, I noticed alot of Filipinos everywhere, working and such. I also went to some of the bars and noticed alot of leftover British expats everywhere. Hong Kong is still impressive city, but very much a financial and money-making place. Its definetely filled with life though! Never a dull moment, even better than Shanghai. But sometimes the thickness of office workers running around everywhere takes the real life out of it somewhat, and puts on a different spin to it. I do like it overall though.

Well, this will be last entry in China, I'm planning to go the Philippines next.. bye bye China! I'll miss you!
