Puerto Galera, Philippines - September 22, 2001
Recently took a bus and boat from Manila's island of Luzon to Mindoro Island just south of it. There are several towns here including White Beach, Puerto Galera and Sabang. I've now been to all three of them.
On the boat part of the journey, I met a group of Korean students all of which were studying English in the Philippines. They were pretty surprised because they first approached me to ask me where I was from, and I responded in Korean to them. After the boat ride, they invited me to join their group, and because we were surrounded by so many local taxis and bike drivers when we arrived, I graciously accepted to join their company. We immediately were taken by one driver to a Korean owner who owned a restaurant and many bungalow huts along the beach. So i joined them at White Beach, which turned out to be a fairly quiet place. We enjoyed our time until about midnight, when all of the electricity in the small town went out, and we were forced to find our bungalows in the dark. White Beach was very nice though, very ideal setting, fairly quiet (except for the hawkers trying to sell shirts and jewelry and such). But it was also relatively boring, but I stayed there with the company of a group of Koreans anyhow.
The next day after they left, I went to Sabang, which is more nightlife oriented, and not so much beach or sand oriented. It had a completely different feel. There were quite a little labryinth of bars and clubs all along the shores, and a good place to spend the second evening.
Tomorrow I'll be going back to Manila, and most likely getting ready to make a trip back to Korea once again.
