San Rafael, California - October 27, 2001

I'm still homeless and unemployed! I'm staying with some friends and they have both been unemployed for a few months - although one has managed to pickup some parttime landscaping work. The after-effects of the Internet industries bust is definetely in the San Francisco air. I've been meeting alot of their friends in the Bay Area who have also been laid-off of work and looking. Seems like a bad time to be coming to California with the job market as it is.

The apartment market is horrible too. There is no way to find a studio for under $1,000/month. Most likely they are significantly more than that though. Roommates seem to be the best situation, and there seems to be very few for anything under $600/month. On the plus side, my friend here in San Rafael is going home to the East Coast for the month of November, so I will stay and occupy his room in the house while he is away. That'll give me time to continue my search for something affordable - thats really my only criteria - something affordable.

I've been trying to pursue a job in this economy, and its just not working well at all. The temp agencies require that I send them a resume first, but then I don't hear from them. If I do hear from them, they say they have too many laid-off long-term employees that they want to put back to work before they take on any new employees for temporary assignments. Financially I'm caught up in the same mess that everyone else in the Bay Area is in.
