SEOUL, KOREA - March 20, 2000

Someone told me there was close to 400,000 tons of Yellow Sand expected to drop on South Korea this Spring from China. Its a common occurence every Spring. The winds lift up thounsands of tons of yellow sand and carry it across to Korea. Sometimes there are some great photographs of it in the media. For the most part you don't notice it, but you will notice a film of dust or dirt on cars, this is the Yellow Sand from China.

Well, what else should I say about Korea? How about President Bush and the Korean Peninsula.. mainly things are reverting back to the way things were once again.. there was a tremendous amount of excitement in South Korea about six months ago.. with so many new changes and increased positive relations between South and North Korea.. and the President of South Korea even won a Nobel Prize for his peace efforts.. there were even a kind of love affair excitement with Kim Jung IL (the North Korean president).. with Kim Jung IL dolls and toys and those marketing gimmicks.

But just recently the President of South Korea met President Bush in Washington regarding the Korean Peninsula.. and the American policy towards Korea has changed tremendously.. and now the Bush administration regards North Korea as a danger and a threat.. so now it seems as if North Korea is closing itself off again.. and has been blasting USA as an imperialistic nation.. so no one knows what will happen now.. it seems like things are going to revert back to the Cold War days.. and now North Korea will begin building its weapons and such to defend itself against what it considers to be a threat to its own existance... so I think the peace processes have ended.. at least for the next few years... although it seems inevitable that once a more tolerant American administration comes to power, the relations between the two Koreas will stabilize, and we can begin to see positive progress once again.

My school is fine. All adults, split schedule, at a private institute. Two hours in the morning, four hours in the evening. But the schedule changes each month. The school is within walking distance. Classrooms are at most 12 students. Everyone in the small classrooms sits around a fairly large table. We work 20 days a month, if there are fewer than 20 workdays in a month, we work on a weekend, and if there are more than 20 workdays, we get a few extra days off during the week.

Spring is in the air.. or at least appears to be.. its deceptively nice.. but yet you still have to wear a coat and scarf or whatever else..
