Bangkok, Thailand - December 1, 2003

Bangkok is so much better than Seoul! First off, I'm right next to the Skyway Train. Basically its an above-the-ground subway. Today, I woke up and walked a good 30 minutes and found a mall to walk around for awhile. There are so many bookstores in here and everything else. I've found an enormous amount of extremely different restaurants as well. Its quite a change from Seoul, Korea. It might not seem like much, but up in Seoul, nearly 99.999% of all the restaurants are all Korean as well as the books. Down here in Bangkok, it almost feels like I'm back in California or something. There are also so many Western people here, that the mix of Asians and Caucasians, also feels very much like being back in the Bay Area of California as well. Its a really nice change of pace for a week.

Well, after I went to one mall and walked around for quite awhile, I rode the SkyTrain to what seems to be the center of the city - Siam Square. At this point, it was mostly more shopping, and I saw quite a few very large English Language Institutes.. hmm.. a possibility someday down the road for working. I was tempted, and even went in and asked for an application, but since it was Sunday, they understandably said to come back tomorrow.

I was also watching Television later in the evening in my hotel room - a nice selection of channels! Including an MTV Thailand channel. There isn't anything as good in Korea. There are some music stations in Korea, but they are once again 100% Korean yet again. Korean pop music is kind of like Backstreet Boys types of music. Thai pop music seemed quite abit more electic. Even TV was better down here. Plus more stations. When I get back to Seoul, it'll be disappointing to be back with only two English stations again - BCC (British News) and AFN (U.S. Armed Forces Network).

In the evening, out of curiousity, we went and found the famous Patpong area of Bangkok, in the Silim area. That is where all the dancing girls are at and such. It was kind of interesting, a little bit crazy down there, but definetetely interesting. Then back home to watch more MTV and enjoy many of the books I'd bought during the day. There is just too many books for reading in this city. So much stuff I haven't seen for quite awhile since I'd been back in Seoul.
