Innsbruck, Austria- August 11, 2004
We just finished the first module of 4. The program is more or less split into 4 different modules. The first module was a lecture series of various experts in various topics. Starting tomorrow we begin our 4 day weekend before the next module which will be radically different than this one.
Okay, first I will discuss this upcoming module. We will spend 7 days at somewhere called the Native Spirit Camp which is on the Austrian/Swiss border. Afterwards we will spend the second week at somewhere called the SOS Kinderdorf. I will explain much more about them over the next two weeks as I'm actively participating in them. For now, the important part is that they are coming up next, and they too are part of this Masters Program.
This week however, we had various other experts in various fields. They were more about conflict and war and peace and all the rest. Very interesting. We had some experts from Austria, the UK, Germany, and France. I quite liked them. Also having a good time with all of the other students and getting more and more familiar with each other everyday. I'm also somewhat attempting to take advantage of the swimming pool downstairs.
At this particular moment, I plan to spend the weekend exploring more of Innsbruck whenever I can. I did last weekend as well, and I quite like it. There are trains and buses that go everywhere. Its also very touristic, very beautiful, and you can walk just about anywhere you'd want to walk within the town limits. Great place. I also found a great hiking bag at a flea market for 3 euros, a chessboard for 1 euro, and a water container you can wear around your waist for 2 euros. All of which will be great for this mountain excursion that is coming up next. The other thing I really liked about Innsbruck is that its extremely safe and housing is everywhere, meaning most buildings are filled with apartments and go up about 4 stories high throughout the small little city. Very convenient place to live I think. However, we're just living outside of town and taking the bus down whenever we can.
For the next four days, I will mostly be working on a 5-10 page paper about Peace and what it means in my language, my culture, my born-into religion, my constitution, and several other meanings. Its basically our assignment for the first module. So, in short, I'll be busy doing that most of this weekend.
