Puerto Princesa, Philippines - February 13, 2006
The cruise in El Nido last night was beautiful. Apparently that is the thing to do in El Nido - take a trip by boat around in the bay. We saw lots of beaches along some of the jagged cliff rocks that jut out of the ocean. Apparently many boats just drop foreigners off on those for the afternoon and pick them up later. That seemed to be the thing to do.
I also read recently that when Alex Garland wrote his book 'the Beach', which was later made into a Leonardo DiCaprio movie... it was all written while he was staying in El Nido. Not sure if its true, but the setting and possibility seems real. I can see a book or any book being written in that location.
As for us, we are back in Puerto Princesa now. Our time is somewhat pressing us, and decided to spend Valentines Day here tomorrow, and then we'll fly to Manila on the 15th so we can start organizing her Korean visa and our airflights. Once we get them taken care of in Manila, we'll visit Lucban to see her sister.
As to things in general. Well, we took the bus back to Puerto Princesa from El Nido. It was a very long day. The bus had a flat tire before even starting out. Then it seemed to stop just about everywhere in typical Filipino fashion. All of these buses (that aren't marked otherwise) stop for every single person along the road. They also pick up and drop off packages along the way. At one place, the person a package was suppose to be delivered, had moved, so they had to look for them. In short, it turned out to be a very long day.
Now we are back in Puerto Princesa and checked into Puerto Pension (my favorite pension so far in the Philippines).. and just had dinner at Sari's Borya, where I ordered the Inihaw na Porkchop. That dinner at that restaurant and that pension house are perfect. Both filled with bamboo everywhere for decoration, and both have great service and offer a good deal.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. A very important day for Filipina women. There are signs everywhere and its all people are talking about here. Everywhere seems to have some kind of event, and even though its still tomorrow, everyone seems to already be wishing each other Happy Valentines.
More on the Philippines..
