'this work is a video installation we made in 1999. two videos depict a male and a female astronaut in the ambient and weightless environment of space. they are caught in a loop of perpetual transience; constantly on the verge of, but never succeeding in, communication.

the work draws on recent depictions of space travel and the blurring of the lines between the scientific and the aesthetic - we were interested in kubrick's extensive consultation with nasa scientists when making 2001 or nasa's employment of the highly conceptual architects at future systems to help them design space environments. in this sense we were concerned with the history of futuristic images and the merging of science and artifice.

the work was first shown at the project space, rmit, melbourne in 1999. it has also exhibited in the art gallery of new south wales, sydney as part of passing time, the moet & chandon exhibition 2000. the videos have recently been shown in oslo and vienna'.
