Elemental Magick

All luktai have some kind of elemental magick. Most of the time, this magick is genetic, inherited from the parents. All magick has a personal signature that can be tracked. However, there are known to be many odd mutations and throw-offs from the norm. Those rare births of luktai with no elemental magick are known as gruta, and are either killed or forced into exile. It is thought that there are communities of gruta living in Raakrein.

The Nobility have all five elements, and have held this true in their bloodlines for hundreds of generations. Yet even they, too, have throw-offs, who are born with less than five. They are banished from the family, keeping the bloodlines pure. Those who are banished usually become part of the ekan.

The majority of luktai in OurWorld, however, are considered "peasants" or "commoners" by the upper classes. These luktai have power separated into three levels: High, Common, and Low. Most luktai are of the Common class. Those who are High magicks are usually put into the ekan at an early age, or sent to temples for education or to become huun. Lows are only a step above gruta.

It should also be said that most luktai with Water as an element are known to either come from or be very drawn to Kusa Lee no matter what their level of power.

In the following chart, the strongest element of each pair is listed first. Highs can have any job they wish that is specific for their power, even if it's listed as a Low on the chart, it's just considered rare for Highs (or Commons) to stoop to a lower level job. Those pairs marked with an asterisk (*) are rare pairings. Those marked with a double asterisk (**) are rare pairings which are very valuable and sought after.

Elemental Combinations

Three Elements: Luktai with three elements are not altogether uncommon. However, it is very uncommon to have three elements of equal power. Usually two are of nearly equal power, and the third is so insubstantial that the luktai may not even realize they have a third element. Those with three elements are usually commoners.

If a luktai happens to aquire three elements of equal power, they are put into either the ekan or the huun depending on what the elements are.

Four Elements: Luktai with four elements are very common in the ekan. This is because they are usually four elements of equal or near-equal power. Those luktai with four elements are usually born into the Nobility but are disentitled by the head of their household because of missing a fifth element.

Because of this, much of the high-ranking ekan are easily corrupt ex-Nobility.

Five Elements: All luktai with five elements are part of the Nobility. There are eight households, five high and three low, whose hierarchy is determined by the overall power of each household. Those Nobility with all five elements of High power become the head of their household.

Most Nobility have one or two High power Elements with the rest much lower. Those Nobility with all Low power Elements become Noble Servants.

Ancient Magic

Ancient Magick is the strongest, most dangerous, and most difficult type magick to master. It is, also, the rarest magick luktai can be born with an affinity to. Only Royalty, who can also control all five elements, can control and be trained in Ancient Magick. The Royal bloodline rarely experiences the throw-offs of recessive genes, and it is very rare that any of Royal blood can not control Ancient Magick.

Any luktai who can control Ancient Magick is considered Royalty. Commoners have been born in the past with all five elements and Ancient Magick ability, and have been taken into the Royal family. These luktai are called diyu.

This type of magick is described as energy from the Void which is the "world between worlds." It is very difficult to control, and the Void will control the user if they are not strong enough. There is very few limitations to what Ancient Magick can do except for how much energy the user can channel. If a user does not know their own limitations, it is very possible to burn yourself out with your own magick, leaving them with the intelligence of a vegetable most of the time. However, sometimes when a user burns themself out with Ancient Magick, the Void takes partial control of their bodies.

The Void is a dangerous, powerful energy source. Some Royalty have spoken of Ancient Magick as an "everpresent sleeping dragon" in their minds. Some have even gone insane by feeling they were being watched by the Void. Ancient Magick is unpredictable, and it takes years upon years of training to bring it under control.
