47th theorem, 2000
sculpture: ceramic,
mixed media
painting: acrylic
on canvas
This piece started with diagrams
of Euclid's "47th theorem".
It has great significance
to Freemasonry and other mystical
systems. The "checkerboard"
motif is a western version of
the "yin/yang" symbol that
signifies the balance of
opposites creating harmony.
This piece is also a tribute
to William T. Wiley, who
is one of my all-time art gods.
