This piece is covered with a very thick slip made
out of white clay ("B-Mix"), applied roughly by hand
and smeared around.  The body of the piece is a
stoneware clay ("Sandstone Buff").  The round end
of the piece was once bare of slip, and I didn't like
how it turned out after firing.  I didn't want to fire it
again.  Years later, I hit on tinted tile grout, applied
also by hand.  It worked great.
