10 Great Gifts
Or How to Tell if Someone Loves You
Love is the most abused word in the English language. I very
rarely heed it off another's lips. I have learned it means that they
veiw "love" as carte blanch permission to humiliate me, use me, and then
say "I love you. You know I do." This puts me in the unsavory
position of having to be polite and honoring my promises even when
they do no such thing.
For the benifit of those wiser than me, who refuse to be bound by the
dogma of ethics and honor (I envy you), here's the list of what actions
define love. I encourage you to make up your own list and throw habitual
offenders the hell out of your lives. *L*
-
THE GIFT OF RESPECT - A
person who really cares about you will simply not allow themselves to disrespect
you. They won't divulge things that would embarrass you. They
won't mock your basic nature.
-
THE GIFT OF HONESTY - A person who
cares about you won't allow themselves to lie to you. Especially
when it involves their feelings or the status of things between you.
-
THE GIFT OF RECOGNITION OF DEITY -
A person who really cares about you will see within you greatness of spirit
and will honor that.
-
THE GIFT OF RECIPROCITY - They will take
on as much responisibility for the friendship as you do. If you're struggling
with whether your friend/lover really cares, one question will answer it.
Does s/he seek you out? Do they return phone calls?
-
THE GIFT OF SENSITIVITY - If you are
going through something, their concern will be evidenced.
Word of Warning: No one can do all of these all of the time,
and individual circumstances count. Be wise in this as all things.
