Beautifully restored in an enchanting park-like setting in the City of
Campbell, the English Tudor style architecture of the Ainsley House transport
the visitor to the bygone era of the 1920's. The Ainsley House was built in
1925 as the home for English born canning pioneer John C. Ainsley and his
wife Alcinda. Eleven years later, in 1937 John Ainsley died. His grief
stricken widow moved out of the house to stay with friends; she died two
years later. The house remained closed for 42 years, looked after by a
gardener/caretakers who lived in a apartment above the garage. It remained closed until 1977-78
when the Ainsley granddaughters started restoration work on the exterior.
In 1989, the granddaughters transferred ownership of the Ainsley House to the
City of Campbell, to move onto city property for use as an Historical Museum.
In November 1990, the house was moved to the Campbell Civic Center. The house
was restored to its original condition and now functions as a historic house
museum., while the garage became a museum store and small exhibition area.
The Ainsley House is open for tours from Thursday-Sunday, 12.00-4.00 pm.,
April-December.
