ARTIST'S BIO
ROBERTO CHAO, muralist and graphic designer based in Boston, grew up in Uruguay. He received the B.F.A. from the School of Fine Arts in Puerto Rico, and the M.F.A. with concentration in Mural painting from the School of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He also holds a M.Ed. from Cambridge College.
He has been committed to community arts in the Boston area for the past seventeen years. He has produced 35 remarkable art projects with groups as diverse as school children, gang members, and elderly people. He has taught art at several public school systems in the Boston area. For the past four years he has been teaching art at the Somerville Public Schools. He has given lectures, performed, and created art workshops at almost all community centers in the Bay region, and at different colleges and art institutes in Massachusetts.
He has exhibited in Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, and Nicaragua, and at galleries and prestigious institutions in Massachusetts. His murals, signage panels, scenery and posters are well recognized, and can be easily distinguished on the street of Boston.
His last astonish traveling Mural, and funded by Urban Arts at the J. Hernandez Cultural Center, was a success and got public attention. At the present time Chao has created six Signage Panels for kiosks in Jamaica Plain as part of the City of Boston "Main Street Improvements Project".
