NO MAN

(Wednesday, May 21, 1997, 12:24 a.m.)

"There is no man for me."

I say this with joy;

With determination.

For when a man enters my world

As a knight in shining armor,

All else around me dulls,

And my mind is clouded,

And my heart is clouded,

And my soul is sullied and numbed

By the presence of another.

But when the man leaves,

Retreating silently in fright or anger,

Or completely unawares,

The sun shines brighter;

The night glows blacker

And the world around me quivers,

The colors bursting alive.

And I open my arms and mouth

To drink it all in, intoxicated with life,

For I am Tranquility.
