SHINES

(Saturday, June 29, 1996, 11:01 p.m.)

Ah, moonlight, with its silvery cast

Soothes unspeakably in my silvery room,

Palely touches the Earth with

Tiny bluish Shines.

Streaking stars dance the sky;

The sky unscathed by city lights.

The sky bloated with a universe tonight.

Childlike dreams and hopeless hopes have come true for me tonight.

O Night, my closest friend, my thanks for bringing the Moon,

Silver, shy stars, magic hours of placid, pure black.

This room, with windows open, sleeps in darkness,

And Shines whisper in from the Moon; they tiptoe

About me, they touch and tickle my skin;

Ah, my skin is now silver, my hair is the sky, and I am glutted with stars.

May the day never come, may the Sun never rise!

May the air be music about me;

May children play in my sky;

May the Moon put Shines in my eyes.
