TOMORROW

(Wednesday, April 3, 1996, 11:21 p.m.)

Tomorrow braves onward

Through foaming white sprays,

Near Ireland and Iceland

Around iceburgs sashays.

Such a brave little ship,

With its billow'd crisp sails.

Lives through many a seastorm

Yet still cheerfully hails:

"I am the young ship Tomorrow,

Born into Paradise gained --

I never will know any sorrow,

I've never seen human life stained.

"Tomorrow am I, looking forward,

Yet knowing eventual fate --

My starboards will creak away early

While ancients rejuvenate.

"Yet I know I'm resurrected one day;

Built of strong alloys and steel,

And I'll cleave a new path, a new way.

I will brush away stars with my keel."

Tomorrow braves onward

Through deep frigid black,

Near Castor and Pollux...

She may never come back.
