Lunch Break
By Kristjan Brezovnik
Faith and Jasmine were in the middle of a fight with a group of vamps. It had been rather quiet lately and they were both itching for a good slay. Out of seven vamps only three were still standing and Faith felt giddy.
"Get down!" Jasmine suddenly warned her.
Faith dropped on the ground without hesitation and less than a moment later there was a loud bang. Faith was puzzled for a moment, but then she recognized it as a gun being fired. She rolled away, expecting more shots, but there were none, so she stopped and got up.
"I got her!" Jasmine said as she dusted another vamp.
Faith noticed that there were still two vamps left and she guessed that the shooter had been hiding.
"Thanks!" she called and tackled one of the vamps.
A few moments later, both vamps were dust.
"You okay?" Jasmine asked as she approached her sister.
Faith nodded.
"Yeah," she said and took a deep breath. "That was a vamp?"
Jasmine nodded as they started to walk again.
"Yeah. I dusted her."
"Good." Faith thought for a moment and then shook her head. "You know, we're damn lucky."
Jasmine glanced at her, raising an eyebrow.
"In what way?"
"Well, we're still alive. Hell, the world still exists."
Jasmine frowned.
"Yeah?" she said slowly.
Faith shook her head.
"Well, we're basically saving the world between lunch breaks."
Jasmine chuckled for a few moments and then her face became serious as she realized that her sister was right.
"Yeah."
Faith thought for a moment.
"You know, we should start thinking on a broader scale," she then said.
Jasmine raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, right now, we're a bunch of school kids and we've saved the world more times than I can count. But how long is this gonna last? I mean, I doubt this Hellmouth is the only one. And what's gonna happen when the Armageddon comes? I mean, the Watchers' Council is obsolete, they can't be trusted anymore, especially with those guys who are spying on them."
Jasmine nodded.
"Yeah, I know what you mean."
"I was thinking more along the lines of the Initiative and the Council put together. Except without the whole super soldier thing and the corrupt Watchers."
Jasmine nodded again in agreement.
"Yeah." Then she grinned. "Have you been watching Nikita too much?"
Faith chuckled.
"I don't want our organization to be so… cruel and heartless. Hell, they're a lot like the Watchers' Council, except for the hi tech."
Jasmine thought about it.
"Yeah, I guess." She paused. "We can ask the guys about it tomorrow."
Faith nodded.
"Okay."
Raelee and Lara were on a date. They've been to the movies and they were on their way to the Bronze.
"So, do you feel like dancing tonight?" Raelee asked as they walked through the park, hand in hand.
Lara nodded, still excited from the movie.
"Yes."
Raelee smiled.
"It got you going, didn't it?"
"Yes. Do our cheerleaders dance like that?"
"I don't know, you'd have to ask Monique or Renee."
"I…"
"What was that?"
They both stopped.
"Gun fire?" Lara asked.
"I think so."
"Let's look into it."
Raelee looked at her girlfriend, surprised, but she didn't object.
They slowly approached the source of gunshots.
"Who are they?" Raelee said when she saw three men shoot at someone. "Isn't that Mr Hammond?" she asked, surprised, when she saw the target.
"Yes."
"Who's he carrying? Looks like a child."
Lara didn't respond. She concentrated instead and the three shooters were thrown backwards. Then she pulled the guns from their hands and bent them, making them useless. The men looked around, puzzled, but they quickly left when Mr Hammond shot at them.
"Let's go to him," Raelee then said.
Lara nodded and they left their hiding place.
"Who's there?" Mr Hammond said when he heard them approach.
"Don't shoot," Raelee said and Lara put up an invisible barrier, just in case.
"Miss… O'Connor?" Mr Hammond said, surprised. "Miss Archer?"
"Yes," Raelee said. "Are you okay?"
"What are you doing here?" Mr Hammond asked as he lowered the gun, ignoring the question.
"We are on a date. We were just going to the Bronze." She smiled at the child, a girl, who was staring at them, scared and teary-eyed. "Hey," she said with a smile. "What's her name?" she asked Mr Hammond.
"Mary."
"How old is she?"
"Four."
"He's hurt," Lara suddenly said.
"Really?" Raelee said, glancing at her. "Let her take a look at it," she said when Lara moved forward.
Mr Hammond took a step back.
"There's nothing she can do," he said.
"She can take care of it. Now turn around."
"Look, girls, I appreciate your help, but…"
"We can help you, Mr Hammond," Raelee interrupted him, "but you have to tell us more."
Mr Hammond stared at them for a few moments.
"I appreciate…"
"Why do you think those three men left? Because they got tired?" Raelee interrupted him.
Mr Hammond frowned, surprised.
"You had something to do with that?"
"We did. Now turn around so Lara can take care of you. And you can fill us in in the meantime."
Mr Hammond hesitated for a few moments and then sighed.
"I don't see what you two can do, but what the hell," he said and turned around. "I used to work for the NSA as s field operative," he said as Lara examined his wounds. "But then I met my wife and I decided to quit. My boss wasn't very happy about it and he'd like to see me dead."
"Oh. And your wife?"
"She died at child birth."
"I'm sorry." She thought for a moment. "I'm not quite sure how we can help you yet, but we can take care of Mary for you."
Mr Hammond considered the offer.
"Hey, guys."
Mr Hammond turned.
"Miss… Spencer."
"Mr Hammond?" Faith said, surprised.
"He needs our help," Raelee said as Lara moved behind him to finish healing his wounds.
"Sure. What happened?"
"He's used to be an operative for the NSA. He quit and they want him dead."
Faith blinked.
"Oh." She thought for a moment. "You guys stay here and I'll get Willow. Then we'll take them to Giles."
"Okay," Raelee said and Faith left.
"Who's Giles?" Mr Hammond asked.
Raelee thought for a moment.
"A librarian. He's a friend."
"I see." He looked at Lara, who joined Raelee, and frowned. "I don't feel pain anymore."
"I healed your wound," Lara said.
"How?"
"We all have our secrets," Raelee said. "Now, let's hide in those bushes and wait."
Mr Hammond was confused, but he knew that he would be easily spotted, so he complied.
"Guys!" Faith called when she and Willow came back.
Raelee and Lara stood up and Mr Hammond followed their suit.
"Hi," Willow said when she saw Mr Hammond.
"You better hurry," Faith said, glancing at the road.
Willow nodded and walked to Mr Hammond.
"I'm going to make us invisible," she said and put her arm around his waist.
Mr Hammond was about to object, but Faith put a finger across her lips and he decided to wait.
"It worked," Raelee said when Willow, Mr Hammond and Mary vanished.
"You can't see us?" Mr Hammond asked.
"No. Come, let's go."
"Hey, guys," Jasmine said as she came across the group.
"What happened?" Faith asked when she saw Jasmine was clutching her stomach and was breathing heavily.
"A damn vamp got lucky and punched me in the stomach just when I relaxed my muscles."
"Oh. You done with your patrol?"
"No, still got one cemetery."
"I'll go."
"Thanks."
"Oh, by the way, remember Mr Hammond?"
"The Computer Science teacher?"
"Yes. He used to work for the NSA and now they want him dead. We're taking him to Giles."
"You are?" Jasmine said, puzzled, and looked around.
"Hey, Jasmine," Willow said.
"Willow?" Jasmine asked and looked at the empty spot.
"Yes."
"Invisibility spell?
"Yes."
"Oh." She looked left and right of Willow. "Em, hi, Mr Hammond."
"Hello, Miss Spencer."
Jasmine looked at the spot where the voice came from, but she saw nothing.
"Let's go then."
"I'll catch you later," Faith said and left.
"Hello, Girls," Giles said when he saw Jasmine, Raelee and Lara enter. "Are you okay, Jasmine?"
"Yeah, just got punched in the stomach."
"I… Willow!" he said, startled, when Willow appeared out of nothing.
"Hi, Giles," Willow said, smiling sheepishly.
"This is Mr Hammond," Jasmine said, introducing the man, "our Computer Science teacher." She frowned when she saw the girl. "Who's she?"
"His daughter, Mary," Raelee said.
"Oh."
"Em, hello," Giles said. "I am Rupert Giles."
"Mark Hammond."
"He used to work for the NSA and they want him dead," Jasmine said.
"I see," Giles said, wondering how the hell they came across the man.
"Hey, I can ask Mom if Mary can stay over at our hose until we clear this," Jasmine suggested and looked at Mr Hammond. "I have a sister Mary's age and they can play together."
"I'd… appreciate that," Mr Hammond said hesitantly. "Why are you helping me?"
Jasmine shrugged.
"It's what we do. I'll go call Mom," she said and went to the phone.
"Why don't you two clean up first," Giles suggested.
"Thank you," Mr Hammond said.
"Are you hungry?"
"No, we ate before we were attacked."
"I see. The bathroom is this way."
Giles led the way and Mr Hammond followed him.
"Em, Mr Hammond!" Jasmine called after him. "Mom said Mary can stay with us."
Mr Hammond looked at her.
"Thank you." He looked at his daughter, who was still scared. "But I think I better stay with her tonight," he said and caressed her.
"Okay. I'll get you two some clothes then."
"That would be nice," Mr Hammond agreed.
"I'll go get the clothes then."
"And I'll get my computer," Willow said.
"And we're going to the Bronze," Raelee said and looked at Lara, smiling.
"Hey," Faith said when she got to Giles." Where is everyone?" she asked, puzzled, when none of the girls was there.
"Jasmine left to get some clothes for Mr Hammond and his daughter, Willow left to get her computer and Raelee and Lara went to the Bronze."
"Oh."
"I'm back," Jasmine said as she came in. "All quiet?" she asked Faith.
"Yes."
"Good." She looked at Mr Hammond. "Here. I brought you some of Dad's clothes and some clothes for Mary," she said and gave him the bag.
"Thank you," Mr Hammond said and took the bag.
"Hi," Willow said as she came in, a bit breathless. "We're about to see if those Council codes work," she said and started to hook up her computer.
When Mr Hammond finished changing his daughter, he tucked her in. Then he came to Willow.
"You're hacking into NSA computers?" he asked, surprised, when he saw what she was doing.
"Not exactly. I have legitimate codes."
"How…"
"A long story," Willow quickly said and concentrated back on her computer. "Okay, let's see what we're up against and then we can make a plan."
Mr Hammond raised an eyebrow as Faith, Jasmine and Giles came closer, but he didn't comment. He wasn't sure how they could help him, but they could break into NSA computers like it was no big deal. And then there was the weird thing with invisibility. It seemed to be working, because they had passed an operative on their way to Giles and the man didn't see him. And, of course, a safe place for Mary was also great.
Cordelia squirmed when she saw Faith kneeling on the bed, leaning on the bed post, wearing only underwear.
"Goddess, every time I see you I just get so…"
"Horny?" Faith suggested, smirking.
"That's an understatement," Cordelia said. "I mean, imagine me, Queen C, the straightest girl ever, melt into a puddle at your feet."
Faith chuckled.
"Now, now, calm down. If it were you here then I'd be melting."
Cordelia smiled.
"Yes, I suppose so."
"Now come here so I can lick you up."
"Your wish is my command," Cordelia said and started to undress.
"Who told you to undress, slave?" Faith demanded, her eyebrows raised.
Cordelia looked at her, confused.
"But I thought…"
"I'll undress you."
"Oh," Cordelia said, her frown turning into a smile. "By all means," she said.
She lay on the bed and let Faith have her way with her.
"Mmm," Faith purred after she had cum. "This dream sex is almost better than the real thing."
Cordelia smiled, cuddling up to her.
"Almost."
"So what happened with the body parts?"
Cordelia made a face.
"Don't even mention it. Wolfram & Hart were harvesting prisoners on parole for body parts. Lindsay got a hand."
"Ugh," Faith said, making a face.
"He quit now."
"Yeah?"
Cordelia shrugged.
"Yes. He left LA."
She sighed and snuggled even closer to Faith.
"You okay?" Faith asked, worried.
Cordelia nodded.
"Yeah."
"You sure? Because those after-vision flashes of yours and the visions are giving me headaches, I can't imagine what it must be like for you." She frowned. "Okay, I can imagine since I have your memories, but still."
"Yeah, I know," Cordelia said quietly.
Faith caressed her.
"I wish they didn't hurt that much."
"You and me both," Cordelia agreed and sighed. "How's Alison?" she changed the subject and looked up at Faith.
"I think she's okay. Her dad's in jail and she seems a bit more relaxed. She spends a lot of time with Billy, I think it helps her."
"Do you know when the trial will be?"
Faith shook her head.
"No, but I think she'll tell me when it ends."
Cordelia nodded and sighed.
The next morning, Willow came to Giles, made herself, Mr Hammond and Mary invisible and took them to the Chase mansion.
"Is that you, Willow?" Faith asked when she opened the door, but there was no one there."
"Yes."
"Come in," Faith said and stepped aside.
"We're in," Willow reported a few moments later and Faith closed the door.
"Faith?" Mrs Chase asked.
"Willow brought Mr Hammond and his daughter."
"Oh."
A few moments passed and then Willow, Mr Hammond and Mary appeared.
"Hi, Mrs Chase," Willow said.
"Hello, Willow," Mrs Chase said and looked at Mr Hammond. "And you must be Mr Hammond."
"Yes," Mr Hammond said, a bit surprised that the woman wasn't surprised by the invisibility thing. "Thank you for your help."
Mrs Chase smiled.
"You're welcome."
"Hi," Jasmine said as she and Alice came from the kitchen. "This is Alice," she introduced the girl.
"Hello," Mr Hammond said with a smile. Then he looked at his daughter. "Mary, you will stay here for a day or two."
"I don't want to, Daddy," Mary said, scared, and hugged him tightly.
"You have to, sweetheart," he said, caressing her. "Remember the bad men? Daddy has to make sure they won't hurt us again. I'll be back in a day or two and you'll be safe here till then. And look, you'll have a friend to play with."
Mary looked at Alice, who was holding Jasmine's hand, a bit nervous.
"Alice, this is Mary. She'll be staying here for a day or two," Jasmine said.
"Hello," Alice said.
"I hope I will return tonight. And if not, I'll try to call you in the evening, honey, or perhaps I'll drop by myself. But you'll be safe here," Mr Hammond said and caressed Mary.
"Do you have to go, Daddy?" Mary asked, scared.
Mr Hammond smiled.
"Yes," he said, putting her down and kneeling in front of her. "I have to make sure that bad men won't hurt us anymore." He wiped her tears. "Everything will be okay, honey, I promise," he said and hugged her tightly.
Mary hugged him back and they remained like that for a few moments.
"Now be brave, honey," Mr Hammond then said.
Mary nodded and he let go of her.
"Are you ready?" Willow asked.
"Yes," Mr Hammond said and got up.
"Mary, step back a bit," Faith said and gently pulled her back.
"Okay," Willow said, "this spell will last at least twelve hours. Anything you pick up, as long as it's not too big, will become invisible as well. If you can see your reflection, hide."
"Okay," Mr Hammond said with a nod.
"Good. And remember, people won't be able to see you, which means they won't be avoiding you and you might crash into someone if you're not paying attention."
"Yes," Mr Hammond said, nodding again.
"Good."
Willow then performed the spell and threw some powder at Mr Hammond, who then disappeared.
"Daddy!" Mary screamed, terrified.
"It's okay," Faith said and hugged her. "He's still here."
"I'm here, honey," Mr Hammond said and caressed her.
"Daddy?" Mary said, puzzled and scared.
"I'm invisible," Mr Hammond said. "That way the bad men won't be able to see me and hurt me. I love you, honey," he said and gave her a kiss on the forehead. "I'm going now."
"I'm going too," Willow said.
"Remember where to meet us," Faith said.
"Yes," Mr Hammond said and opened the door.
"See you later," Willow said and closed the door.
"Alice, why don't you show Mary your toys," Jasmine said.
"Okay," Alice said.
"Oh, and you'll have to stay home today, because bad men mustn't see Mary."
Alice nodded.
"Okay. Will you fight the bad men too?"
"We will," Jasmine said, smiling.
Alice then looked at Mary, who was a bit lost and confused and, above all, scared.
"Come," she said and took her hand. "Do you want to play tea party?"
Faith, Jasmine and Mrs Chase smiled as they watched her take the frightened Mary upstairs to her room.
"Hey, Maria," Faith said when she got home from school.
"Hello, Faith," Maria said with a smile and then looked back at her little helpers. "Only one spoon, Mary, and then slowly mix it. No, not that full, Alice, a little less."
Faith smiled at the sight.
"I'll be in my room," she said and left.
"Okay, Mary," Jasmine said in the evening when she and Faith were about to go out, "I don't know if your Daddy will be able to contact you tonight, but Faith and I are going to him now and we will help him. Okay?"
Mary nodded, missing her daddy.
Jasmine smiled and caressed her.
"You take care of her, Alice."
"I will," Alice said seriously.
Jasmine then looked at Faith, who was dressed just like her.
"You look just like me."
Faith grinned.
"No, you look just like me. I'm older, remember?"
"Only a couple of minutes."
"So?" She smiled. "Let's go."
Jasmine looked at the girls.
"Bye, girls."
"Bye," Alice said.
"Be careful," Mrs Chase said.
The twins smiled.
"We will, Mom," Faith said.
"Yeah," Jasmine agreed.
Then they left.
"Mr Hammond, it's us!" Faith called when she and Jasmine entered the old mansion.
"Yes, I saw you," Mr Hammond said. "How is Mary?"
"She's fine. Alice kept her occupied the whole day." She looked around. "Are Willow and Lara here?" Jasmine asked.
"We're here," Willow said, invisible. "We did the spell as soon as we saw you coming."
"Okay. Then we're ready?"
"Yes."
"Good." She looked at Mr Hammond. "Mr Hammond?"
"They should be there," he said.
"We'll go check it out then. You wait here."
"Okay."
The four girls left, leaving a Mr Hammond behind. He had been hiding for years, not trusting anyone and now his students were helping him in more ways than he could ever imagine. He hoped the problem would be solved within a few hours so he could return to his daughter.
It didn't take the girls long to reach the place where Mr Hammond wanted to meet his corrupt boss. There was no one there.
"We'll go check the perimeter," Willow said.
Faith laughed quietly.
"Looks like I'm not the only one watching Nikita too much," she said and Jasmine grinned.
"Yeah."
"We're going," Willow notified them.
"Okay. We'll wait for you here," Faith said.
The witches left and the Slayers looked around.
"I see at least three," Jasmine said after a few moments.
"Four. There's another," Faith said and nodded in the direction of the fourth man.
"Oh. Yeah."
"They'll probably follow us into the crypt, but Lara will have to trip the first two a couple of times, so the other two can catch up."
"Yeah. But I'm worried about the boss."
"No sweat. He'll probably show up when Mr Hammond comes. And when we trap those four in the crypt, Willow and Lara will knock him out and plant the evidence. And then we wait for the cavalry."
Jasmine took a deep breath.
"I hope this goes well."
"Me too," Faith agreed.
"We're back," Willow announced when she and Lara returned ten minutes later.
"And?"
"Five men. Their boss is behind the corner. He has a driver."
"We only noticed four men," Faith said. "There, there, there and there," she pointed.
"The fifth is a little left of the second man."
The Slayers looked.
"I see him," Jasmine said.
"Yes," Faith agreed. "Okay, let's do it then. You two know what to do?"
"Yes," Willow said.
"Okay. We'll be right back."
Faith and Jasmine quickly fetched Mr Hammond.
"I see them," he said after Faith pointed out the five NSA men.
"Good." She checked the time. "We still have a few minutes. We'll wait for you at the crypt so you'll know which one it is. And remember, Lara will protect you, you just make sure they're right behind you."
"And pretend you're dodging bullets," Jasmine added.
Mr Hammond nodded.
"Okay."
"See you at the crypt."
Faith and Jasmine quickly left and Mr Hammond waited until he saw which crypt they were headed to. Then he checked his watch. Still a minute to go.
"Here he comes," Willow said a minute later.
Mr Hammond looked.
"I hope this works," he said.
"It will," Lara said.
Mr Hammond looked at the empty air, but he saw nothing. He got up and slowly approached the car. When he passed half of the way, he pretended he just noticed the five operatives and he started to run toward the crypt. The operatives started to run after him, shooting as they went. He felt the bullets fly past him, but none hit him. He glanced behind his back from time to time and he saw that the closest operatives had tripped a couple of times. He slowed down a bit, but when he got closer to the crypt, he sped up again.
"Follow me," Faith said when he entered, and started to run.
Jasmine brought up the rear.
When they got to a fork, Mr Hammond followed Faith to the right and Jasmine went left.
"Where's Jasmine?" Mr Hammond asked when they stopped as soon as they turned a corner.
"She went left, to shake them off. There's a shaft which leads to the surface there and she'll hide in it. Then she'll lead them back to the crypt, where Willow and Lara will knock them out."
When Jasmine got to the shaft, she jumped up and waited for the men to pass her. when they did, she got down. She was about to start making noise when she heard screams and shots. She frowned, confused, and carefully approached the source.
"Jasmine?" Faith asked when she came across the retreating Jasmine a few minutes later.
"Vamps. A very large nest. Must me new. They killed them."
"They didn't turn them?"
"No, they just drained them."
"Oh."
"We'll have to come back tomorrow with Buffy."
"Yeah. Wait here, I'll get Mr Hammond."
Jasmine nodded and Faith left.
"What happened?" Mr Hammond asked when Faith returned.
"Let's just say they won't be bother anyone ever again."
"What do you mean?"
Faith hesitated for a moment and then decided to tell him the truth, since he had already witnessed magic.
"Vampires killed them."
Mr Hammond frowned.
"Vampires?"
"Yes."
"As in Dracula?"
"Sort of. Come on, let's go back. Quietly."
Mr Hammond followed Faith, not quite sure whether to believe her or not. Then again, he had witnessed magic, so there might as well be vampires. As hard as it was to believe.
"What happened?" Willow asked when they got out of the crypt. "We thought we heard shots."
"Vamps. A very large nest," Jasmine said.
"Oh."
"And you two?"
"We knocked them out and planted the evidence. Then we took his gun and fired a couple of shots. NSA came about a minute later."
"You didn't leave any fingerprints?" Mr Hammond asked.
"No."
"Good."
"Make us invisible and let's go home," Faith said.
"Okay."
Mrs Chase was a bit startled when she opened the door and found no one there.
"It's us, Mom," Faith said.
"Oh," Mrs Chase said and stepped aside.
"We're in," Faith said when they were all in.
Mrs Chase closed the door and Willow undid the invisibility spell.
"Everything went well?" Mrs Chase then asked.
"Not quite. Vamps got the hit men."
"Oh."
"Where is Mary?" Mr Hammond asked, deciding to ignore the fact that Mrs Chase seemed to know about vampires.
"She's sleeping."
"Can I see her?"
"Of course."
"I'll call Mrs Stewart and tell her to give you the rest of the week off," Faith said.
Mr Hammond looked at her, surprised.
"And she'll do it?"
"Yes. She's very understanding about problems like that. We'll come by tomorrow to see if you need help redecorating."
Mr Hammond was speechless.
"You can sleep on the sofa tonight," Mrs Chase said and Mr Hammond looked at her.
"Em, thank you."
"Come."
"We'll get the sofa ready," Jasmine said.
"Okay, honey."
"We'll tell Giles that everything went well," Willow said as Mrs Chase took Mr Hammond upstairs.
"Okay," Jasmine said and the witches left.
"Daddy!" Mary said, excited, when her father woke her up in the morning.
"Hello, honey," Mr Hammond said and hugged her tightly.
"Time to get up, Alice," Mrs Chase said.
Alice nodded and rubbed her eyes.
"Can we go home now?" Mary asked when they stopped hugging.
"Yes, honey, I took care of the bad men, they won't be bothering us again," Mr Hammond said and caressed her.
"Come on, girls, let's get you dressed up," Mrs Chase said.
"I'll wait for you downstairs, honey," Mr Hammond said.
Mary nodded.
"Okay."
"Hey, Buffy," Jasmine said as she and Faith came to Giles after school. "Ready for some dusting duty?"
Buffy grinned.
"I think maybe I should major in house cleaning," she said and Faith and Jasmine chuckled.
"Is Lara here yet?" Faith asked.
"No."
"How many vampires did you see?" Giles asked.
Jasmine did a quick mental count.
"At least twenty. I think there were more."
"Seven each," Faith said.
"That's manageable," Buffy said.
There was a knock on the door and Giles opened the door.
"Hello, Lara."
"Hello."
"Ready to go?" Faith asked and Lara nodded. "Good. There are more than twenty vamps, and it will be your job to keep them from escaping."
Lara nodded.
"Then let's go," Buffy said.
"Be careful," Giles said.
"We will," Jasmine said and then they left.
"We're getting close," Jasmine whispered when they came close to the nest.
"Any plan?" Faith asked.
"We go in and stake them," Buffy said.
"Sounds good to me," Faith grinned.
"But let's go quietly," Jasmine said. "That way we can kill several of them before they start waking up."
"Okay," Buffy said. "Let's go."
They approached the nest. One of the vamps was up and Buffy threw her stake at her. The vamp turned around, surprised, and turned to dust. Then they moved in and started staking the vamps as they passed them. They dusted about a third of them when one of them woke up.
"Slayers!"
The vamps started to wake up and then Slayers abandoned stealth.
When about two thirds of the vamps were dust, the remaining vamps decided this was not their lucky day and they decided to flee, but Lara blocked their path with an invisible wall. They tried the back door, but Lara blocked it as well.
"Is that it?" Buffy asked when they were done.
"Looks like it," Jasmine said.
"There were more than twenty," Faith said.
"Yeah. I guess some must've been out yesterday."
"Yeah. Let's go back."
"Well done, Lara," Buffy said and Lara smiled.
"Hello, Mr Hammond," Faith said as she, Jasmine and Alice came to him before going to the park.
"Hello."
"Need help redecorating?"
"No, thank you, I already cleaned up the major mess."
"Oh."
"If you want, we can take Mary to the park for an hour or so," Jasmine offered. "So she won't be bored or in the way."
"That's a great idea," Mr Hammond said and turned around. "Mary, look who's here."
Mary came closer and smiled when she saw Alice.
"Hello," she said.
"Do you want to go to the park with Alice?" Mr Hammond asked.
Mary looked at him, thinking.
"Are you coming too?" she asked.
"No, I still have work to do. But Faith and Jasmine will take care of you."
Mary looked at the twins, who smiled.
"Okay."
"Then let's put you into something more suitable." He looked at Faith and Jasmine. "Hold on a minute."
"No problem," Faith said and Mr Hammond took Mary away to change her clothes.
"You know," Jasmine said after a few moments, "I've been thinking."
"About?" Faith asked and looked at her.
"About Alice going to kindergarten."
Faith raised an eyebrow and looked at the girl. She thought for a moment.
"Yeah, I guess. It would be good for her," she agreed.
Jasmine nodded.
"Yes. We'll have to ask Mom about it."
"And ask Mrs Stewart if one of the falling angels is teaching in kindergarten. I mean, she might be a target."
"Yeah," Jasmine said with a frown. "Damn."
"Alice," Faith said and looked at the girl.
"Yes?" Alice said and looked up.
"Do you want to go to kindergarten?"
Alice frowned.
"Where?"
"Kindergarten. Young children usually spend their mornings there and they play. Mary goes to kindergarten."
"Really?"
Faith nodded.
"Yes. You can ask her about it. I'm sure it will be more fun than being at home all morning with no one to play with."
"And you'll make new friends," Jasmine added.
"Talk to Mary first, okay?" Faith said.
Alice nodded.
"Okay."
"Okay, she's ready," Mr Hammond said as he brought Mary back.
The twins smiled.
"Okay," Faith said.
"Mr Hammond, we've been thinking about sending Alice to kindergarten. Could you talk to Mom about it?" Jasmine asked.
Mr Hammond nodded, smiling.
"No problem. Today?"
"Whenever you have the time."
Mr Hammond nodded again.
"Okay. I'll call first, I have your number."
"Okay. Thanks."
"We'll be in the park," Faith said. "We'll bring her back in an hour or so."
"Okay." He looked at Mary. "I'll see you later, honey."
"Okay, Daddy," Mary said and stepped forward.
Alice took her hand and they started for the park.
The twins smiled.
"We'll see you later," Jasmine said and they followed the girls.
