Situated in the quaint village of Hunmanby - 9 miles to the south of Scarborough and 8 miles to the north of
Bridlington and just 3 miles from Filey - The WHITE SWAN HOTEL makes an ideal base for those wishing to visit
the marvellous Yorkshire coast and the beautiful countryside of the Wolds. A family run business, the WHITE SWAN
has gained a strong reputation for the friendly service it provides. It is also a great place to bring the family for a
meal, or to drop in for a drink in congenial surroundings.
A brief history: There has been a WHITE SWAN in Hunmanby for many years, It is thought that it was originally built
as a farmhouse, but by the 17th Century it had become a courtroom and a coaching and public house. The 50-seater
restaurant at the back of the pub used to be the courtroom for the Manor of Hunmanby. The court offices were
upstairs in the pub and until about 12 years ago an old witness box was a popular feature with visitors. the WHITE
SWAN can even boast its own ghost! Harking back to the days when it was a coaching house, the story goes that a
coach left the Dotterel Inn at nearby Reighton with a stage coach driver and passengers. It arrived at the White Swan
with the passengers - but no driver! And it is the driver who, for some reason, is reputed to haunt the WHITE SWAN.
