"Going Home" 1/1 (VOY: P/K) [PG] Tom plopped on Harry's couch. The Doctor had pronounced them both fit for duty, showing no ill effects from the creature's mind control. "That was way too close for comfort. I can't believe we were fooled like that." He smiled with relief until he saw Harry. He looked miserable. "It just showed people what they wanted to see. It's kind of interesting to see what was in people's hearts. B'Elanna wanted her friends back. You wanted to go to Australia, without me," his voice trailed off bitterly. Tom fidgeted. He felt his heart begin to pound. Harry's eyes glittered with welling tears. His lips quivered. "Do I mean so little to you that you'd want to go to Australia alone?" "Har... its not like that. Not at all." Harry turned from him. He curled on the sofa, chin on knees. Tom tried to hug him but he shrugged him off. "Tom, do you know what was in my letter? Do you know what made me so happy?" There was a bitter edge to his words. "I got the message that you had been pardoned, reinstated and that we would be stationed together." He turned to look Tom in the eye. There was the cold despair of that future Harry in his look. Tom shrank back slightly. Suddenly the tears welled all the way over. Tom leaned forward and took Harry into his arms. "Har... baby... don't cry. I told you it wasn't like that... here look." He poked at Harry with a PADD. Harry knocked it aside. He poked again, this time shoving the PADD into his hand. Harry looked at it, through blurry eyes. "Read it." Tom urged. Harry sniffled and read. He read both the creature's letter and Tom's reply to it. "See, it wasn't like what you thought at all." "oh Tom. "
Harry tossed the PADD aside and buried his head in Tom's chest. He
sobbed quietly for a few minutes, Tom stroking his hair. The PADD was
still on the line 'after my wedding I'll be happy to join up with you.'
