Our public buildings use to be monuments,
monuments to things greater than man.
Providing halls of government,
housing seats of governance,
for sacred democratic processes.
These unique American institutions,
that resided in these old public buildings.
They provided the historical landscape,
of our older cities, in a day gone by.
Now they're built by the lowest bidder,
who cut corners to save a buck,
to bring projects in on-time, under-budget.
They serve their purpose, they say,
but no monuments to our legacy,
and none are intended!
These new public buildings,
that provide the contemporary urban landscape,
of our newer cities, seems everywhere.
