These Panels were the result of trying to solve the following problems. How to paint a large wall installation in the relative comfort of the studio, and be able to easily transport and install it, at it's destination. Oh yes, it should also have great flexibility in terms of how it might be fitted into unusual spaces as well as keeping within a budget. Since I was unable to figure out how to do this I simply stole the idea from the people who have been building things for centuries with "TILES". (22" x 22") They have a richly textured plaster coat on a simple and light wooden panel. They are then painted and rubbed repeatedly. Most are abstract color studies. They remind me of the simplicity of the Zen Garden. People are encouraged to select their own groupings. Several people have chosen groups of nine. If hung in three rows of three, they form another square. Considering that each piece could be hung by any of its 4 edges and also could be moved anywhere within the group of nine. We have tried to calculate the maximum number of variations. Our figure is over 95 Billion! |
