Jake Clawson and Chance Furlong are two auto mechanics at a junkyard outside of Megakat City. Two ordinary kats it may seem, but as soon as danger threatens Megakat City, they change to Razor and T-bone: the Swat Kats, and do their best to save the city.
Jake Clawson and Chance Furlong used to be in the Megakat Enforcers (a militant team of law officials) until a day when Dark Kat attacked the city. Jake and Chance almost got him but Commander Feral tried to take over and get the honor of capturing Dark Kat. Feral did not only cause that not they nor he managed to capture Dark Kat, but also made them accidently destroy the enforcer headquaters. As they got the blame, Chance and Jake were demoted by Feral to work on a scrap yard until their debt to the city is payed. As two of the best enforcers around, they just couldn't hang around doing nothing when the city was endangered, so they buildt a jet by military scraps and took on the identites Razor (Jake) and T-Bone (Chance) as the vigilantes the Swat Kats.
This TV-show, that is set in a world where cats have evolved into humanoid-like "kats", was created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay. Hanna-Barbera produced 23 episodes (less than two complete seasons...), which debuted in 1993 and "quite fastly developed a cult following"...
(Only 23[/24] eps... THAT'S UNFAIR!! Althought some people say that it was for the best. But as they cancelled the show, we'll never know how much better(/worse) the show could have becomed if they'd had keept it on for atleast a couple of seasons more.. Damn.)
Dr. Viper
- DESCRIPTION: A katshaped evil biochemist reptile katoid that used to be a evil biochemist kat.
- BACKGROUND: Used to have the name Elrod Purvis. Wanted to do evil things. Had a plan that backfired on him - he got reptile mutagen on him and got in a physical state that got him declared as being dead. He wasn't dead, of course. He mutated into the reptile-ish thing that he is today and called himself Dr.Viper - brilliantly original name ain't it ::sarcastic::. ..Did i forget to mention that Dr.Viper's one of my fav villains? ::lol - it is true::
- ATTEMPTS TO: Take over MegaKat City and to turn it into a swamp (MegaSwamp) ruled by him.
- METHODS: Mutagens... Good ol' Viper always uses some "katalyst" to create mutatants that are under his command, and through them take over the city.
- APPEARS IN EPISODES: "Mutation City", etcDark Kat
- DESCRIPTION:
- BACKGROUND: I dunno. Does anybody know anything that's not speculations? Oh well.. C'est la vie, ist es nicht so.. heheh
- ATTEMPTS TO: Take over MKC of course, like every other villain. Why they all try to do so? Nobody knows for sure.
- METHODS: Uhhhh ... oh well and anyways he's also got creatures that do his dirtywork, the kind is named "creeplings".
- APPEARS IN EPISODES: "Razor's Edge", etcHard Drive
- BACKGROUND: Useless jailbird that litteraly got the opportunity to get powerful as he got his paws on an coat which enabled him to controle electricity.
- ATTEMPTS TO: Steal military secrets so that he can get cash by selling it.
- METHODS: The hightech coat. He's a useless nobody without it.
- APPEARS IN EPISODES: "Unplugged", etc
T-Bone / Chance Furlong
- DESCRIPTION: The pilot. Kind, friendly, and not to be underestimated when it comes to intelligence even if he is the muscles of the team.Razor / Jake Clawson
- DESCRIPTION: The . Kind, friendly, and not to be underestimated in strenght even though he's the brain of the team.
Commander Ulysses Feral
- DESCRIPTION: Commander of the Enforcers. One of the things that you are most likely to hear him say is "The Enforcers can handle it". He considers the SK to be vigilantes that only make any situation worse. Has his principles and sticks to them [HaHa Metallikats!].
- ATTEMPTS TO: Do his job well i.e. protecting the city and all (and getting the credit for doing so...), hates the SK though (just as much as they dislike him?), as they in his opinion get in the way and unable the Enforcers to take care of the situation efficiently.Lt. Felina Feral
- DESCRIPTION: A lieutenant in the Enforcers. She's a tough she-kat that doesn't take a no for an answer [and we love her for it]. Got included in the show in the second season. Unlike her uncle, she does not have anything directly against the SK and has aided them more times than once.Mayor Manx
- DESCRIPTION: A gutless, pretty much useless, and harmless mayor, who rather spends his days at the golf-course than dealing with important events conserning the city. Let's face it, he hasn't made any important decisions for ages. Deputy Mayor Callico Briggs is the one that makes all importand moves. [Why is he there? Comic relief?? Most likely :-) ]
Deputy Mayor Callico Briggs
- DESCRIPTION: The one who's doing all the mayors actual work i.e. tons of paperwork and etc. She is positive to the existence of the Swat Kats as she doesn't find the enforcers alone efficient enough to protect the city. She has a communicator with which she can contact the SK in case of the event that she discovers any immediat threats (in the shape of supervillains) to the city. The KatsEye News crew: journalist Ann Gora & camerakat Johnny
- DESCRIPTION: If there's a story, then Ann's not afraid to jump into the middle of it all to get it. Johnny tags along often against his will as it can get quite dangerous to be in the middle of the heat of the battle [between SK & whatever supervillain that's attempting to take over the city that week].
If you aren't a SK fan or you've never had any sort of connection to SK except for watching it on the TV, then there are a few things you'd might consider to be helpful to know...
tED tURNER - known as Ted Turner (the media Mogul) to most people on this planet, but is referred to as tED tURNER by most SK fans, nomatter whether or not that person writing it "hates" tED tURNER or not.
(Why do many SK fans hold a grudge against him? Well after all, Turner Entertainment took SK off air... Allegedly because "one day Ted Turner took a look at SK and realized how violent that TV-show was". )
Crud - due to Chance, there's a exaggerated tendency amongst some SK fans to use "crud" in sentances instead of damn/fuck,
e.g. "Oh crud! I blew up the house!!" or "Crud, I shoulda bin writin' on da C++progz insteada writin' on deze darn webpagez..."
