Welcome to the room I love most in my little home.
As you walk from the living room into the studio you are facing
South. Just to the right of the door is a bookcase filled with
books, videos and photo albums, a 300 CD music rack filled with all
kinds of music and a 1916 upright piano upon which is stored
cameras and a slide projector. To the left of the door (the back of
a canvas is in front of you) is my easel and taboret. Since I work
only in oil all my paint supplies are stored in the taboret. |
|
You are now facing East. This side of the studio has
the entrance to the kitchen and two large floor to ceiling windows
that slide open from the bottom. Along that wall of glass is my
grandson's toys, a card table that I sometimes use as a work
table when it does not have a train track on it, a trunk full of
canvas cloth and other fabrics, a treadmill and my extra easel
holding an unfinished portrait of my grandson. |
|
You are facing North and here is my work area that
is lighted by three Verilux 150W bulbs in reflectors, on the ceiling
and one more attached to the taboret. Depending on the natural light
in the studio, I may only need the light on the taboret. Behind the
taboret., unpainted canvases, a director's chair, tool box, a mud
lamp, a camera tripod and stretcher bars are stored. The room is
about 15x15' and I have about 6 feet of backup room while I
paint. |
|
You now can see the back wall of glass (South) with
two bookcases holding all art stuff. Behind the bookcases is a door
that I sealed shut. |
|
You have now stepped out of the kitchen to the back
brick patio and deck next to the studio. Take a walk to the right
and you pass the south side of the studio. |
|
A view of the back of the studio from my picnic
table. That, to the right is a stand of giant bamboo (about 2 1/2
houses high) bordered by bromeliads and border palms. |
|
Walk on past the picnic table, where I usually gesso
canvases etc. As you walk past the bamboo and turn left you will be
back at the brick patio and the kitchen door. Yup....you're right.
No grass. Just mulch from the bamboo.
I hope you enjoyed your tour. I loved having you. Please come
back and hopefully the next time you visit it will be in
person. |
