Plants that delight in eating every human they can. Men with white lights from their eyes wearing long dark trenchcoats. They aren't fooling anyone. Ghouls that paint themselves to look like humans. A car that, despite all protests, drives itself off the nearest cliff. Aliens pretending to be humans pretending to be aliens. Standing ankle deep in mud that seems to be alive. Shapes outside the window that are gone when I turn to look. The door open when I come home. Or unlocked. Dead, but under the impression he's still alive. Still goes to work. I can't see myself in the mirror. Odd. It slept peacefully for almost a century, until we decided to come crashing into it's cave. Everyone stops talking and turns immediately to stare at me. I am obviously the odd man out as I am the only human in the room. I noticed upon entering the town, however, that it was unlike most other towns in that it had no buildings or people that I could see. Just termite mounds as tall as skyscrapers. Falling asleep in a strange place and waking up in a different but even stranger place. Despite my best attempts, I can never get my computer to call me dirty names in front of anyone else. The children enjoy their cookies, and their deaths are painless and quick. An old girlfriend slowly fading in and out of existence as I try in vain to carry on a conversation with her. The dream-creatures of children in my town suddenly coming to life and attempting to buy groceries in line ahead of me. All I could see was teeth and eyes. And teeth. |
