What's New on the Site

14/6/00 - We are in Sydney, new jobs, new lives etc - which unfortunately don't include time for genealogy! For all those who have generously contributed to the site, please don't despair - I will get around to updating it as soon as I get a chance. Meanwhile please bear with me - and use my new address which is alexjrogers@yahoo.com .

9/8/99 - I'm off to get married, honeymoon in Africa and then relocate to Sydney, so won't be doing much for a while. However there are lots of new ships in the Australian Immigrant Ships section, including some really interesting diaries and other material. I've updated the Genealogy section so the online section is just about up to date with my research. There is a whole new website dedicated to the Clarence River area where our Australian family settled, called the Clarence River Genweb, a good resource for the area if enough people contribute their stories and data. I've tried to tidy up the rest of the site as much as possible before I leave - if you want to send suggestions etc use my new email address from now on please. This and all the new contact details are on our Contacts page, which I intend to update asap after any change. I'm back in October!

25/5/99 - The biography of Captain Alexander Main 1833-1901

18/5/99 - A couple more biographies added - for Abraham Carr and his family, as well as for Domingo Gressier

6/4/99 - The ship lists are growing, so added a new index page just for them called Australian Immigrant Ships All the passenger lists, letters, voyage accounts etc will go into this section - and when individual family narratives are added, I'll link them to the relevant ships.

23/3/99 - added a letter from James Dempsey, a passenger on a ship in 1838 from Derry to Sydney at the same time our relatives did this voyage.

18/3/1999 - updated the Genealogy with the last two months worth of names, places & events - now nearly 900 relatives.

12/02/99 - a page for Partial passenger list for the "Parland" 1838 - this is a transcript of the original ships passenger disposition list on arrival in Sydney, showing George Rankin and his employment details. The Rankin Story so Far has been amended to take account of the new information found from this source.

12/02/99 - a page for Mike & Julie Rankin & Family was added to the family photographs section. I am keen to add to this side of the website, so any pictures you are willing to lend me, family, will be much appreciated. I'll scan & return originals.

28/01/99 - the Historical photographs was added. This is a photo album of pictures of my family going back to about 1900. I am keen to add to this side of the website, so any pictures you are willing to lend me, family, will be much appreciated. I'll scan & return originals.

28/01/99 - the Surgeon's Report on the "Parland" 1838 was added. This is an account of the voyage of the Parland from Ireland to Sydney, with my ggGrandparent George Rankin on board. I have also made several corrections, and extended the new, easier to view colour scheme.

18/01/99 - the Partial 1851 Census Returns - Fife was added. This is a part of the 2% extract of the 1851 census so it is unlikely you will find specific ancestors on it - but several people have..... Covers Abbotshall, Auchtermuchty, Crail, Dalgety, Dunfermline, Kilmany and Markinch

03/12/98 - the The genealogy was updated. It now goes back to 1808 on the Rogers line and 1818 on the Rankin line. I have also changed the colours to make it more legible and printable - something I will be extending to the rest of the website in due course.

03/12/98 - the Statement of William Thompson was added. Explanatory notes for the terms Corver and Wesleyan were added.

01/12/98 - new Index page to make it more readable and include a direct link to the genealogy pages, now that they are up and running.

20/12/98 - the Memoir of John Thompson goes into the genealogy section.

17/11/98 - the Wade Family page makes it to the family section
