Dance Theater
Dances of the Silk Route
and Beyond
Gulistan,
a Persian word meaning "rose garden," is a fitting name for Carolyn's colorful
and unusual collection of traditional dances. Ms. Krueger is a captivating performing
artist whose compelling repertoire features nearly two dozen distinctive classical
and folkloric dances from exotic stops on the Silk Route and beyond. Intricate,
sensuous and rhythmic, her dancing evokes the caravanserais and courts of bygone
days and celebrates the vibrancy of contemporary life in former Soviet Central
Asia and the Middle East.
- Opulent dances of Uzbekistan
and its fabled cities of Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva
- Uncommon dances from the Pamir
Mountains of Tajikistan and Afghanistan
- Moody dances of Armenia and
Azerbaijan
- Elegant dances of Persia (Iran)
- Lively dances of the Arab World
All are displayed in authentic, festive
costumes of flowing silk, velvet and chiffon, ornamented with gold embroidery
and jewelry, and accented with jingling wrist and ankle bells--clinking teapots--a
decorative drum--a cane--a delicate veil- and accompanied by enchanting melodies,
songs and rhythms.
"Throughout the evening she danced with an energized calm and unerring mastery
of complex shifts in pose and direction."
Los Angeles Times
"Krueger's mastery of the exacting hand movements, delicate head -slides,
intricate footwork and tiny gestures is breathtaking."
