Development Associate, THE DANCE GALLERY, INC., Los Angeles, CA

Key staff member in $25 million Capital Campaign office. Established donor research files, data bases and tracking systems, developed Pledge collection system responsible for bringing in $300,000+ in less than 6 months. Wrote successful grant proposals to corporations, foundations and individuals, public relations material, promotional video scripts; helped plan and supported Special Events including celebrity events with Sammy Davis, Jr., Janet Jackson, others. Contributed to Case Statement. Campaign raised $1.5 million in first year.

MOBIUS STAGEWORKS, San Jose/Los Angeles, CA

Co-Founder, Co-Artistic Director of innovative dance-based theatre group producing original work throughout California. Founded in 1981 in San Jose, CA, relocated to Los Angeles in 1986. Director, producer, playwright, performer, general manager, technical director, designer. Produced over 1,000 performances of 15 original works; named one of the top 10% of performing companies in Los Angeles by the LA Weekly (1989). Developed funding, wrote grants for special costuming production, video production (runner-up in "Innovative" category in national Hometown USA cable-access production competition). Managed studio, prepared State and Federal tax reporting, payroll, acquisitions, etc. Wrote incorporation papers, by-laws. Trained actors, developed educational programming, designed promotional materials. Collaborated in special benefits with Art League San Jose, the de Saisset Museum in Santa Clara, CA, and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art.

On-site manager and sales of fine art. Responsibilities included selection of exhibited artists, artist representation, sales, curating of special exhibits and events, bookkeeping and banking, advertising and promotion, hanging and display, negotiations, etc.

OJAI COMMUNITY ART CENTER, Ojai, CA
 
General management of theatre facility, oversight of all productions. Directed series of plays on Classic and Absurdist theatre ("Exit the King", "Don Juan in Hell", "Count Dracula", etc.), training programs. Consulted on fund-raising, stage and lighting design for re-construction of theatre facility. Developed annual fund-raising events, including Christmas crafts and entertainment fair featuring celebrity guests, which raised $75,000 the first year. Celebrities included pianist Roger Kellaway, Jim Messina, actors Barry Sullivan, Mary Wickes, Jeff Corey, Stephanie Edwards, Beau Bridges, others.
 
Managed and coordinated major special events, including Art in the Park, a statewide juried art exhibit in conjunction with the Ojai Music Festival. Oversight of performances and exhibits in the facility and Center events in collaboration with visiting performers/companies, such as Inner City Cultural Center of Los Angeles, pianist Oscar Peterson, etc.

Artist/designer and manager of fine arts gallery and Graphics services (album covers, book jackets, brochures and posters, flyers and other promotional material); specialized in logo design for local businesses. Responsibilities included sales, financial management, advertising, client relations, general management of gallery.
