Wordshop Poem

by Nancy Freedom

Fur
Frothed forth—
Arctic fox,
Malamutes,
Husky,
Wolf.
Beautiful on doggish back,
Atavisticon

Man under undershirt
over his pelt.
Old, old mammalian memories
of burrowing under fur
to drink
or to find umbilicus,
to bury nose in soft flesh
and feel safe in
mate's belly.
I don't forget being such.
