Poems by Lorraine King

[from January 19, 2000]:

Now, Not Then

Take down the walls if you
   need to.
I'm not falling.
I'm coming home.
Here's the keys.
Leave the windows open.
I'm not going where you're going.
You can't take me with you.
I've been sucking it up so long,
For the time, I can turn on a
   dime—now.
So, don't be watching for me
on your radar screen,
what you're looking for in me
can't be seen.
I've been practicing.
Remember the wind in my hair?
(I know, it's not fair)
So, hasta luego and kiss
   the cook,
I'm not in the book.

[from August 10, 1993]

Tamalpais to Stinson

Mountain high on a tail wind
slipping down the sandy deeps.
Lavender thistle
Green in the wildwood afternoon
   heat.
Heartrock into canyon sides
breaking into rollers.
Troll for seasprites
on the thundersome
high tide wave of the
   future.
Ship to shoreline.

Dune grass.

Weather Report

Date line fault line
Blame it on a woman.
Coffee beans get roasted.
==toasted==
==brewed==
(skip the hops)
and sipped
(your lips)
