There's no place like home

thank god

Nobody seems to have ever heard of Tallangatta, so in the interests of broadening your geographical knowledge, I've found a few things which show how Tallangatta is promoted on the net...

"East along the Murray Valley Highway is Tallangatta, the town that moved.
The coloured sails of yachts now scoot over the old town, which was flooded for Lake Hume in 1956 and rebuilt on its present site.
When the water is low, the streets and structures of old Tallangatta rise like ghosts from their watery grave."

Now just take a gander at these pictures!!!
Oh yeah - now this looks like a place where tourists would flock to in their hundreds!

Okay, to be fair, I'm sure it's a good place to spend a few weeks of your summer holidays. And we DO have two pubs... And we've also just gotten our first ever ATM, so you can't say that Tallangatta is behind the times.

And because the people there aren't all bad, I'll include a couple of links, to places that are nice to visit.

And WOW! I've just found a reasonably good guide... try this site here!for a fairly comprehensive thing about my hometown. In fact, they get it pretty damn right - at least from my perspective:
"The town did not die with its transfer in the 1950s. Sadly, however, it lost much of its character and became just another modern Australian suburb - albeit surrounded by agriculture and green fields. As you drive through the rather unexceptional town (it is located just off the main highway) it is clear that much of the building has occurred since the 1970s and that there are many modern 'suburban style' buildings. There is no feeling that this is an old town. It is modern with a park in the middle of the main street."

And, at the risk of breaching copyright of some form, I just want to display these pictures from the site, which show you basically what I saw everyday, while I was still living there.

See why I felt I had to get out?
