Photography
I began photography as a hobby a few years ago. The summer before my Junior year, I bought a camera from a local pawn shop. That school year, I became one of the photographers for my school's newspaper. I dropped newspaper, and started shooting on my own. Since then, I have moved to Colorado--a photographer's paradise. I find myself taking pictures faster than I can get them developed. I took a Photography class in high school and discovered how much I like shooting with black and white film. The course explored various techniques in photography: shooting, developing film, and work in the darkroom developing prints. We did our shooting with Iford HP5 plus black and white film. This is a very good film uesd by many professional photographers. I find that in many cases, I like black and white film much better than color. The downside of photography.......it's expensive.
My Gear
The body of my camera is a Canon FTbn QL. I've talked to many photographers who said that they started out with this camera, and still keep it as a backup. It's a tough camera, made out of stainless steel. However, it's also quite heavy. When I bought the camera, it came with a Tamron 90mm/2.8f macro lens. It's a wonderful, but specialized lens, and has its limitations. Occasionaly, I have to step back further to fill the frame properly. Macro lenses are specially made for focusing on objects at close dictances. Later, I bought a Vivitar 28-210mm/3-5.6f macro zoom lens. I wanted a lens that had many applications. The lens is a good all around lens; I can go from wide-angle to telephoto without changing lenses. I have a Vivitar 285HV flash, but it doesn't work. I don't know weither the problem is with the flash or the camera, or both. I've tried my flash on other cameras, and other flashes on my camera, and neither work. I'm trying to find another one for a reasonable price. I'm thinking about just buying a new camera and just not worry about it.
In the not-too-distant future, I plan to buy a Canon EOS Rebel G--Canon's basic fully automatic camera. I have also thought about getting a good digital camera.
I'm hoping to start adding many more photos to my site soon; me, my car, and other photos I've taken lately. Luckily, to help with editing, I was given a copy of Adobe Photoshop 5.0 a while back--and earlier version of the best photo editing softwear currently availible. I'm also hoping to upgrade to version 6.0 soon, but I'm still learning all that 5.0 does.
