More about Moondog

This is a 60's underground comic by George Metzger, entitled Moondog. I have no idea whether it was inspired by the blind musician but it seems likely. Here is part of an actual Moondog strip (artist unknown). I seem to remember that Roger Dean created a Moondog character for a computer game years ago. He looked like a Jack Kirby creation for the Mighty Thor but I am fairly sure he was blind. if anyone has any information about this please e-mail me.

I first came across Moondog in 1970 when I heard "Stomping Ground" on the CBS sampler "Fill your Head with Rock". It was something about the sight of a an old man on the cover of Moondog (CBS) in contrast to all the long haired young Turks of the the time intrigued me. Anyway I thought no more about him until I came across a reissue of his 1956 Moondog album in about 1997 so I bought it. What I got was a surprise. The music was not the same as "Stomping Ground". It was even more eccentric. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that he was still alive. Then, almost as soon as I found out he was alive, I read his obituary in the Guardian.

There is no substitute for listening to these albums (certainly not reading about them on this website) but I can recommend one website above all others. This is:

I don't propose you to do anything with this page
