It is with great pleasure that I share the beauty of this Tsar Alexander III Presentation Piece carpet. I created this web site to gather in one place the reports that were created by so many wonderfully skilled and dedicated researchers. When I began this project, I never dreamed that it would be possible to discover so much relevant information on a carpet presented one hundred and eleven years ago to the Emperor Alexander III Alexandrovich.

Privately held Royal items from any era are rare indeed, even more so when speaking of the Romanov dynasties. I feel privileged to be the caretaker of this amazing historical artefact. Indeed, I am merely the protector for posterity. This is the only way I can view such "ownership", the more so when I note the perfect state of preservation, due no doubt to the line of ownership and the subject matter. Long after my passing this carpet will remain as a historical monument to the great Tsar Alexander III, the absolute ruler of the largest empire the world has seen.

Alexander III was responsible for bringing the first electric lighting to Russia, in Moscow at his coronation in 1883. He directed the building of the longest railway in the world, the great Trans-Siberian rail line, reaching across the vastness of Russia. His rule was wise and just; peace prevailed to the farthest reaches of his dominion. Additionally he and his family were deeply religious people. He ruled with genuine care for his country and his subjects.

My researchers ascertained the exact year when the carpet was finished. They identified and documented the trip during which the carpet was presented, even learning how the Empress Maria Feodorovna was able to flee Russia with this carpet and other possessions after the Bolshevik rebellion. They explained that this is the only carpet of the kind in the world, not only unique but in perfect state of preservation. Only then did I fully appreciate the significance of this wonderful work of art.

In the future, I plan to have the carpet on exhibition in a series of venues. It will remain in company with the Karochop Kazak "Protector Carpet". As a memento of your encounter with this outstanding Romanov era Presentation Carpet, please enjoy the numerour pages, 58 maps, tables, illustrations and photographs of this web site. 1
