I am interested in how a small suburban space can be improved to support a wide variety of living things. This means developing the number and range of ecological niches available for feeding, breeding and shelter. So far I have put up a range of bird and squirrel feeders and I continue to develop a wild wood at the very end of the garden.

The Buckets for Beetles Project.

This is an idea for increasing the environmental niches for stag beetles. I have put in a bucket full of oak wood cuttings mixed with compost as I have four oak trees at the end of the garden as the core of the wild wood and I have been told that there is a colony of Stag Beetles at Monarch Farms, a few miles away, at Hilton.
I am sure that it doesn't have to be a B&Q bucket, but they are very cheap.
