December 6, 1999
The series of events
progressed as so:
1.
Two years ago I heard
a song on Realtime (a now defunct radio show) that juxtaposed the lyrics
of Public Enemy's "By the time I get to Arizona" over Herb Albert's "Whipped
Cream". Loved it.
2.
Two days ago heard on
campus radio Herb Alpert's "Whipped Cream. I tried desperately to rap over
the music to recreate the musical experience I heard two years ago. It
was not satisfying.
3.
Using Google
(favourite search engine of late) I find not only a reference to the song,
but
the entire album in mp3 format from the wonderful detrius.net
I learn the song was created by the Evolution
Control Committee.
4.
I think: there is of
one individual who should be told about this song. This individual was
so taken by Whipped Cream's album cover that he created the Whip
It! Art Car. This individual is Godfrey.
I sent him an informative missive by email.
5.
Godfrey replies and
tells me that not only does he know of the song but he's corresponded and
met with the creator of the song, Mark Gunderson, and even had a picture
to prove it: this one is from Burning Man 99.
6.
Um. There's not much
in terms of closure (and I am so very not post-modern as I do love closure)
but I do have a page of links worth visiting. Enjoy.
