Ghengis and I were just having a delightful chat about how hard it is for a person to find a set of peers outside of work and school. Most folks come home from work and either tune into TV or perhaps does some form of virtual socializing.

Well, I have an idea to combat this social disease. But first, I would like to make two points.

First. Have you ever lived in a large city with a respectable Greek population? Then you know that there are many 'cafes' where older Greek men congregate every night. These cafes are nothing classy ; often its just a run-down store front with second-hand tables, chairs, and television set. And it packs em in every night. These geezers have more of a social life than myself and most of my peers combined.

Second. Have you ever decided that you really needed to get out of the house and so you headed to the local cafe with a magazine, novel, or newspaper under your arm? Then you arrive, order a java, and sit down and read among the other people sitting alone in the cafe reading, until you finish you magazine or coffee (whatever comes first).

My idea:

If I was an entrepreneur I would set up a pub-like establishment that, ideally, would have a number of rooms. Each room would be set up as a living room of sorts, filled with lots of sofas. And TVs. Each room would have a room featuring a different channel and would show certain programmes on a regular basis.

The premise: instead of lounging at home resigned to another night of watching V, why not make an event of it?

Go to the TVPub and watch the Simpsons with a whole room of fellow fans all chortling together. Discuss film references during the commercials.

Watch the X-Files with the lights down. Watch Buffy with the local Goths. Make snide comments with others as you watch Ally or Dawson's Creek or Party of Five. Oh yes, and order the occasional beverage or snack to keep the franchise in business.

We already have sports bars.
Lets take it to the next level.

Any takers?
