January 4, 2000

On December 20, I made a poor scan of Matt Groening's Forbidden Words 2000. It was noticed subsequently by Robot Wisdom and suddenly Rain Barrel's attendence skyrocketed. A lovely result of all this is that several folks sent in their suggestions:

<the raising the roof gesture>
<godfrey>

"it's da bomb"
"it's not the heat, it's the humidity"
<angie>

"slouching towards _______"
<marshall>
(bonus related link)

"at the end of the day..."
(TWO VOTES!)
<nelson and r.>

"negative energy"
<nelson>

"let's not go there"
<brad>

"millennium"
"pentium ___"
and stupid processor names in general
<chris>

"soft money"
<r.>

"it turns out that..."
<em>

"I'm all about ______"
"mad ________"
<aaron>

"ANYTHING with the words "radar screen" in it that aren't actually talking about radar"
<michael>

Incidently, if you are looking for other Forbidden Words, some other soul has scanned Matt Groening's Forbidden Words 1996.

AND I just learned from Wired News that Lake Superior State University has been banishing words since 1976! Some of their Banished Words 2000 list include: 24/7, "You know what I'm sayin?", "Thinking outside the box" and "Cybarian".
