Yesterday,
I went on about the MacArthur Genius Grants. Today, I'd like to highlight
one particular winner, Dr.
Shawn Carlson, the founder and executive director of the Society
for Amateur Scientists.
You may have read his
work in Scientific
American. He writes a column called "The Amateur Scientist" in which
he has already explained how you can make a high-temperature
oven out of a thermos, build
your own centrifuge, and how
to perform electrophoresis for your own personal pleasure. I say, nifty.
